Cubans criticize the Miss Universe Cuba gala: "Total disaster"

Beyond the 24 candidates, their catwalks, and moments on stage, the greatest criticism has been directed at the production of the event.

After 57 years of absence from the most important beauty pageant in the world, Cuba will finally have the young Marianela Ancheta to represent them; however, in the opinion of many, the Miss Universe Cuba gala left much to be desired.

Beyond the 24 candidates, their catwalks and moments on stage, the biggest criticisms have been directed at the production of the event.

"Miss Universe Cuba did not meet expectations this year. Although the stage was impressive, the lack of preparation among the contestants and the mistakes of the host heavily impacted the gala. The salsa music during the evening gown parade did not help, as that moment requires something more elegant and subdued. Additionally, the singers who performed their songs did not do justice to the event. As for the winner, although her answer was not the best, it is undeniable that she has great beauty. Hopefully, they improve for future editions and provide a more complete and well-executed experience," wrote the user @jose_angel_98 on his TikTok account.

On the Miss Universe YouTube channel that streamed the gala live, several internet users pointed out the most awkward moments of the program. The choice of music on the runways could have been better, especially since it did not go unnoticed that Lenier Mesa was dubbing throughout, the music was going one way and he was going another.

"The evening gown parade lost its magic with Lenier's music. It had nothing to do with it. There are many Cuban singers to use him at that moment. It didn't make sense. They should have put Leoni"; "Couldn't Lenier sing live? Are these the 'artists' they support? Then they don't want to be criticized"; "Not even good for lip-syncing does the 'singer' serve on a gala runway!"; "After 57 years, this is the best we could give to the world. If they were going to play the audio of the international singer," some people commented.

The comparisons came quickly, and many questioned whether the event was organized by Cuban television because of its poor quality: "What a terrible organization of the event! I felt like I was watching Cuban television. I didn't like it"; "What a mediocre contest"; "I didn't understand the exit of the event's director and the camera framing... I don't understand... what a bad opening"; "There's not even background music for the final moment; not even in Palmas y Cañas would they dare to do that. There's no doubt that the event was organized by Cubavisión"; "What a piece of garbage that was. The contest was poorly done. I couldn't tell if it was Cubavisión or not. Honestly, it was very poorly done. Everything was very primitive"; "What a lame contest"; "Everything was horrible, from the presenters to the judges; everything looked awful, it felt like I was in Cuba watching TV"; "The production and casting of the program left much to be desired. It looks like a show made by high school students, it's really a shame"; "The Camagüey telecenter could have organized it better. I felt bad for Aylin and William. The poor things did their best, but it wasn't enough"; "Everything was completely off, and that was in Miami. The microphones were all awful with no volume, the cameramen were useless and didn't know how to focus or shoot, and the presenters seemed like novices."

Criticism and questions aside, and with the hope that next year will be a better event, there is something to celebrate in a big way: Cuba is back at Miss Universe!
