On October 1st, the counties of Miami-Dade and Broward enthusiastically celebrated Croqueta Day, a tribute to one of the most iconic dishes of Cuban cuisine in South Florida.
The croquette has French origins, but in Miami it has found a warm home in the small windows of Cuban restaurants, becoming a favorite dish in the local gastronomy.
In 2018, the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County officially recognized this celebration in honor of the popular restaurant chain Sergio's, founded by Blanca Cabrera (Blanca Gazitua) and her mother, in 1975.
Sergio's Restaurant celebrates this date every year with free croquettes for its customers. They have served over 20 million croquettes in their history.
In 2024, Sergio's Restaurant celebrated Croqueta Day by sharing with its fans. In all its locations, diners had the opportunity to try the new recipe for Serrano ham and Manchego cheese croquettes for free. This time, the taste of Spain won in Cuban cuisine in Miami.
