Juana la Jamaiquina tells her story: A domestic worker enjoyed a millionaire's lifestyle before 1959 in Cuba.

This authentic Cuban woman tells her impressive story while recreating the cultural and leisure life that Havana once had.

The YouTube channel Vámonos con Juanka interviewed Juana la jamaiquina in Havana, an impressive woman with a life story that has captured the attention of Cubans on social media.

Juana lives in Centro Habana, in an Art Deco-style building, which in the past even had a doorman, but is currently in ruins, with a risk of collapse in some apartments.

His father was originally from Jamaica. He came to visit Cuba and, according to Juana, the man started dancing and missed his boat. Thus, he stayed on the island, got married in Trinidad, and some time later she was born in the former region of Las Villas.

Juana studied in her childhood, but she did not have a high level of professional training. She worked in the 1950s as a domestic worker.

The salary she earned was only for her and allowed her to have her own collection of heels, handbags, and jewelry. She was an elegant woman who enjoyed dressing well, but nowadays she can hardly afford that with her retirement.

"I was a maid, a domestic worker. I earned between 40 and 45 pesos. I was rich, a millionaire. I had 21 pairs of shoes, along with my handbags and a suitcase of my jewelry. I used to shop on Muralla Street, in the Polish stores," she recounted.

About Havana, he preferred not to talk. His face showed the pain of a city that is destroyed. "There are places that when I pass by, I don’t know why, but tears run down my face. Every day more," he said.

Juana had an intense social life. She frequented all the major nightclubs in El Vedado and was friends with personalities from music and culture such as the singer Elena Burke.

The video reflects the intense life of this black, Cuban, and authentic woman, accumulating over 87,000 interactions on YouTube in just four days since it was published.
