An official from MININT is caught riding a motorcycle without a helmet.

The image of two MININT officers, which includes the Revolutionary National Police and its National Traffic Directorate, was striking, as it is expected that the officials of these agencies ensure compliance with the law, starting with themselves.

A Cuban social media user shared a video in which the infraction committed by an officer of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) of Cuba is recorded, as she was riding a motorcycle in Havana without a helmet.

"And then, are they allowed?", the internet user wondered upon seeing the blatant violation of the Traffic Safety Code committed by the officer who was accompanying on the motorcycle, driven by another MININT officer, who indeed was wearing a helmet.

The image of two officers from the state's repressive body, which includes the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) and its National Traffic Directorate, was striking, as it is expected that the officials of these agencies ensure compliance with the law, starting with themselves.

According to the author of the video, both motorcyclists were seen riding in those conditions from the junction of Novia del Mediodía to 240th Street, along Avenida 51 or Central Highway of Cuba.

The fact is even more striking upon learning that the National Traffic Directorate is located precisely on Avenue 51 and 226th Street in Havana, very close to the area where the MININT officers moved, flagrantly violating the provisions of Article 72 of the Road Safety Code.

"The circulation of motorcycles and mopeds on the roads is subject to the provisions established in this Code for motor vehicles in general and, additionally, to the following: 1) the driver and passengers must wear a protective or safety helmet that complies with the characteristics of the vehicle, according to the requirements set by the competent authorities, and it must be properly fastened," the Code states.

However, the two MININT officials who were riding the motorcycle with license plate B 63866 through a busy avenue in the Cuban capital disregarded what is established by the law that they are supposed to ensure is upheld.

In August 2023, a mother from Holguín, a victim of a traffic accident, died from the injuries caused by a strong impact to the head.

The woman, 26 years old, was riding an electric motorcycle with her 9-year-old daughter and another older woman who was driving the vehicle when, allegedly, she did not stop at a 'Stop' sign and collided with an electric tricycle.
