Two young Cubans identified as Reysis Hernández and Mel Viera died on October 6 in a serious traffic accident in Lehigh, Florida, and the family is asking for help for the funeral.

The families of the victims, originally from the Cuban municipality of Bejucal, launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to cover the costs of the funeral services, where they sought support from friends, acquaintances, and other Cubans residing in the United States.

Ellimay Hernández, the campaign organizer, expressed on the GoFundMe page: "I am doing this fundraising for the funeral services of two very beloved young people who tragically lost their lives in a car accident. The parents are going through sad and desperate times, in addition to having to face the funeral expenses, which are very high. Any amount will be of great help, and the family will be immensely grateful."

The accident occurred when the young people were traveling in a sedan heading west on Lee Boulevard, east of Lee Street.

The driver, a 23-year-old man living in Cape Coral, lost control of the vehicle on a curve, jumped the road separator, and entered the eastbound lanes, where he collided head-on with another car. The impact also involved a third vehicle.

The driver of the sedan and three of his passengers, including Reysis Hernández and Mel Viera, died at the scene.

A passenger who was traveling in the second car was seriously injured and was taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Other individuals involved in the accident also suffered serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.

The Bejucal community and friends of the families have shown their solidarity with the family, and the fundraising effort is almost complete in its goal of 11,000 dollars.

The fundraising campaign can be found on GoFundMe under the name of Ellimay Hernández.
