The city of Venice Beach, located in Sarasota County, Florida, was severely affected during the passage of Hurricane Milton, which left homes and streets completely covered in sand.
Although the eye of the hurricane made landfall a few miles north of this city, the storm surge and winds carried huge amounts of sand from the beach into residential areas.
Venice Beach, known for its peaceful coastline, has seen several homes near the water buried. The accumulation of sand reaches between 8 and 9 feet high, equivalent to approximately 2.4 to 2.7 meters.
The images and videos captured in the area show how the fences of the houses, the street lamps, and a large part of the palm trees were completely covered, leaving a devastating scene.
The storm surge that accompanied Hurricane Milton reached heights of 7 to 10 feet (2.1 to 3 meters), which increased the impact on coastal areas and carried sand inland. This phenomenon has caused considerable damage.
The cleaning workers have started the removal of the tons of sand to restore normalcy to the affected areas. However, this work could extend over several days.
The situation in Venice Beach is critical, but emergency teams continue to work tirelessly to clean the streets and homes, and help residents recover their houses after the devastating impact of Hurricane Milton.
Authorities have urged the population to stay away from the affected areas while cleanup efforts continue.
