Cuba crowned champion for the consecutive time of the second Baseball5 World Cup, held this week at the Central Harbourfront Event Space in Hong Kong, China.

The Cuban team won against Japan with scores of 16-1 and 7-5, reported this Saturday the official account on X of this sport, which is considered an urban version of classic baseball and softball games and also belongs to the World Confederation of the disciplines.

The bronze medal went to the French squad, defeating Venezuela twice with scores of 3-1 and 7-2.

Despite not having any representatives in this edition's All-Stars, Cubans Briandy Molina and Haila González were chosen as the most valuable in their respective genders.

Cuba had defeated Japan 9-1 and 6-2 two years ago in Mexico City; however, the Japanese handed the Cubans their first set lost in the history of the World Cup last Thursday in Hong Kong.

Other Cubans who play in other leagues were deserving of individual awards at the World Cup, as was the case of the Best Coach, an award that went to Sergio Arturo Pérez, a Cuban who managed Hong Kong in this World Cup.

Also, Omar Henrri Diodene, another Cuban who plays for France, was part of the All-Stars.

Taipei, China finished in fifth place and Mexico sixth. Meanwhile, Tunisia, Lithuania, China, Hong Kong, South Africa, and Australia occupied the following positions until the table was closed.

Baseball5TM or Béisbol 5, also known as Cuatro Esquinas, is a fast, young, and dynamic discipline that follows the same foundational principles as its main disciplines.

Baseball5TM can be played anywhere, and it only requires a rubber ball, and its teams are mixed. The Cuban team that participated in this second world championship consisted of four men and four women.

The next edition of the tournament, which will be held in 2026, will take place in Rome.
