The prominent coach in the field of athletics throws, Enrique Eulalio Díaz Gómez, passed away this Saturday at the age of 70 in Havana due to a pulmonary thromboembolism.
The news was announced by the Facebook profile Leo Burun Cuba, who added that "his remains will be cremated and a tribute will be paid at his home when his ashes are brought," as Díaz Gómez was originally from the province of Villa Clara.
Among its main results on the international stage is the silver medal won at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina, in 1995. Additionally, it achieved the Central American and Caribbean championship at the Ponce Games in 1993. It also held a bronze medal from the Ibero-American Championships in Colombia in 1996.
As a coach, he represented Cuban athletics in countries such as Mexico and Brazil, being part of the missions that the Cuban government sends to those countries.
He worked for several years at the University of Physical Culture and Sports (UCCFD) Manuel Fajardo.
"Enrique Eulalio Díaz Gómez was a member of a brilliant era of Cuban athletics and, at the same time, was one of the key figures in the successes achieved. In addition to this, the resident of Villa Clara not only won the affection of Cubans but also gained it in Mexico, where he is still very beloved by the Mexican fans," summarized the sports portal Swing Completo.
