A tragic accident occurred on the central Trocha Street in Santiago de Cuba, claiming the life of Luis Enrique Monier Martínez, a man who was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a Soviet-made Moskvitch car.
The accident, reported a few days ago, resulted in the death of Monier, who was urgently taken to the Joaquín Castillo Duany Military Hospital, near the scene of the incident.
According to an account on Facebook by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene until the authorities arrived, and although the alcohol test came back negative, rumors are circulating that the occupants of the car had been consuming alcoholic beverages.
The victim's family reported that, due to the severe blows to the head, the doctors had no hope for his recovery. Monier Martínez passed away aFew hours ago, leaving his loved ones in pain both in Cuba and abroad.
Despite the testimonies accusing the driver of being involved in previous accidents, the investigations have not yielded any consequences.
The relatives demanded justice and a transparent investigation by the authorities of Santiago de Cuba, regarding what they considered an unjust death.
In mid-August, an accident in Bayamo claimed the life of a cyclist identified as Pablo Estrada, who was run over by a truck on Vicente Quesada street and died instantly upon impact.
In July, a woman riding a bicycle was left in serious condition after being struck by a tourist car on the Bayamo-Manzanillo road. The victim was urgently rushed to a hospital in Bayamo, where she was reported to be in critical condition.
In April, a triple accident involving a bicycle, a motorcycle, and a jeep left four people injured on the road between Cabaiguán and Sancti Spíritus. The incident occurred while trying to avoid the bicycle, resulting in a multiple collision.
