A Cuban woman living in Canada has expressed her shock after visiting her hometown, Las Tunas, in Cuba. The young woman shared a video on her TikTok profile @yd.cu.ca, capturing her arrival on the island and revealing her painful experience of reconnecting with the country's reality.
"The reality of Cuba is quite sad today. I am deeply affected by my people," she confessed in the video, as the images displayed the clear deterioration of local infrastructure.
In her post, the Cuban documented her journey through various streets and highways in Las Tunas, highlighting the neglect and widespread deterioration.
Poverty and lack of resources became evident at every stage of the journey, a painful contrast that impacted the young woman, who did not hesitate to express her sadness: "What I saw hurts."
The video quickly sparked reactions from other users who also shared their experiences and opinions about the situation on the island. The images displayed reflect a reality characterized by the deterioration of roads, housing, and basic services, a situation that has been repeatedly highlighted by Cubans both inside and outside the country.
The young woman's post highlights the emotional impact of returning to a land that many have left in search of a better life.
The current conditions in Las Tunas, like in other Cuban provinces, reflect a decline in quality of life and a lack of investment in infrastructure, which is alarming for those returning after time spent abroad.
The testimony of this young woman is just one of many accounts that continue to emerge amidst a crisis that continues to impact Cuban citizens.
