Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugás has finally been able to fulfill his long-held dream of bringing his mother to live with him in the United States.
"Thank God my mom and my family from Cuba have arrived. It has been such a great blessing, but also something so surreal; I'm still processing it and can't quite believe it," she stated in a video shared on her Facebook wall.
Yordenis recounted that on his mother's first night in the country, they slept together because two cousins who had also arrived occupied the other rooms in his apartment. He joked that now he will have to buy an efficiency unit because there isn't enough space for everyone.
"A few years ago, my close friends, my brother, and my beautiful nephews started to arrive. In these 14 years, I had two wonderful women, both of whom became part of my family, and I will always be grateful for the time I shared with them. But mom (Milagros) is another story," he emphasized.
The boxer revealed that a few years ago he bought an apartment by the sea specifically for his mother, who is a "daughter of Yemayá."
In the 14 years since he left Cuba, Ugás spent almost nine without seeing my mother, a punishment imposed on him by the Castro regime for pursuing his dreams.
"I have been traveling to Panama and Mexico for years because I can't go to Cuba to see my family, but I was already tired of that," he pointed out.
"I am very grateful and feel very blessed. If you are new here, if you have only been in this country for a few years and things are not going well for you, please don't despair. Be patient, be wise. This comes from someone who thought they would be a champion in 2-3 years, but it took them 10 years," he assured.
