Yordenis Ugás, the renowned Cuban boxer, has reacted with deep sorrow to the death of the reggaeton artist José Manuel Carbajal, known as El Taiger.
In a post on his Instagram account, Ugás shared a heartfelt farewell message, recalling moments he shared with the singer and expressing his sadness over the tragic loss. "Rest in peace, champion," he wrote at the beginning of his post, followed by a reflection on the way El Taiger has departed.
"Even though you were murdered (now we need to catch the guilty party), I think you are leaving on your own terms," wrote Ugás, referring to the violent attack that El Taiger suffered. The boxer shared an old video of a birthday celebration, remembering how his son sang and enjoyed time with the reggaeton artist. "I would like to remember you with joy as you were," he added with melancholy.
Ugás also recalled the words that El Taiger dedicated to him after their fight in 2021, when he sent a message saying: "There are few who go with glory and set an example, and you did.” Throughout his message, Ugás highlighted the strength and character of the singer, especially in his final days in the hospital, describing him as a warrior who fought until the end.
The boxer also recalled how a few months ago he told El Taiger that he would "steal" a video he had posted about loneliness, to which the artist replied: "Go ahead, champ, those of us who show the most love are the ones who suffer the most." Ugás concluded his post by remembering that El Taiger never got over the loss of his parents; "fly and reunite with them and be happy again," he said to him.
A few days before this post, while El Taiger was still hospitalized, Ugás had already shown his solidarity with the reggaeton artist. "One thing is to have differences of opinion, thought, behavior, and another is to be in a bed fighting for his life," he expressed on that occasion, when he also criticized those who took advantage of the situation to create divisions, stating that it was time to unite the community to support a young man who was "fighting for his life."
El Taiger, who was declared dead this Thursday at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, leaves an indelible legacy in Cuban urban music. After being shot in the head a week ago, his fans and friends held on to hope for his recovery, but unfortunately, what they so desired did not happen. His death, at just 37 years old, has left a huge void in Cuban popular culture, where he is considered one of the greats of reggaeton and the genre.
Ugás, with a message full of respect and affection, said goodbye to his friend with these words: “You leave many fans who will always remember you. Rest in peace, José Manuel Carbajal.”
