In a recent TikTok video, a Cuban in the United States (who identifies as @sheila_hdzz on the platform) shared her frustration about the rising food prices.
"The cost of food is getting higher every day," she stated at the beginning of the video, while showing her monthly groceries at a Costco supermarket. The woman noted that her purchase for November included some packages of chicken, shrimp, and pork, clarifying that she hadn't bought anything out of the ordinary.
What caught the Cuban's attention the most was the price of eggs. "I paid 7 dollars for a pack of 24 eggs. They are good quality, but 7 dollars seems crazy to me," she commented in the video, where she also asked other users to share how much they are paying for packs of eggs in their areas.
Despite his surprise, he acknowledged that in some areas of the United States, prices can be even higher, which sparked a debate in the comments section, where many users discussed the impact of inflation on their daily lives.
This type of content has become increasingly common on social media, where residents from various cities in the United States are highlighting the rising prices of basic goods. In response to the comments from this Cuban woman, some users remarked: "I spend weekly around $200, so that's between $800 and almost $1,000 a month. And there are two of us," "That's right, food at Costco is very expensive; but there are more options, other markets. In the end, it’s nothing special, just that its prices are higher due to the market category," "In Miami, almost $1,000 a month for four people," "I buy a box of 24 eggs for $12, but they are the best," "Over $500, haha. That Costco scares me every time I go, haha," or "Incredible. I buy a lot at Costco and I think I'm going to cut back on meat purchases there because the prices are outrageous."
