On Monday, January 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. (Eastern Time), Republican Donald Trump will assume the presidency of the United States after a historic victory in the elections, marking the official beginning of a new term.
The Inauguration Day, celebrated every four years on January 20 (or January 21 if it falls on a Sunday), will take place on a Monday in 2025 and, as tradition dictates, will be held at the United States Capitol in Washington D.C., according to a report by Telemundo.
According to the United States Constitution, the inauguration ceremony includes the presidential oath, preceded by the oath of the elected vice president, possibly Senator J. D. Vance, who repeats the same oath used since 1884 for senators, representatives, and other federal officials.
"I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to it; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office I am about to enter: So help me God."
Then, the elected president recites the following oath in accordance with Article II, Section I of the Constitution of the United States: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."
The presidential inauguration, which includes the swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural address, and the review of passes, also includes other activities planned by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
In 2021, the then-President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he would not attend the inauguration ceremony of Joe Biden, who had emerged victorious in that election.
"To all those who asked, I will not attend the inauguration on January 20," the president wrote in 2021 on his X profile.
With this decision, Trump became the fourth president of the United States to skip the inauguration of his successor, breaking a tradition of over 100 years in which the outgoing president participated in the transition ceremony.
Trump refused to participate in the ceremony, believing that Biden won the election at that time due to alleged electoral fraud.
