Yoanier Dorta Mesa, a private taxi driver residing in Matanzas, who had been missing since Monday, November 4th, was found safe in recent hours, according to several sources familiar with the case who confirmed the news on social media.
It was Yordanka López Lorenzo, who identified herself as the young man's mother-in-law, that announced in a post that her son-in-law left on Saturday, November 2, heading to Santiago de Cuba, on a rented trip. He was driving a white Lada car.
"He made a stop in Palma Soriano. We lost communication with him since Monday, November 4, around noon," explained López Lorenzo in a post that he has since deleted on Facebook.
However, in the comments section of several other publications that echoed the call for assistance, several internet users claimed that Yoanier had been found.
An unconfirmed report revealed that he was in Baracoa, in Guantánamo.
In her initial post, Yordanka López explained that the journey to Santiago was with someone known to the family. However, "he does nothing to allow us to speak with him," she noted.
As of the time this note was written, there are no further details regarding the case.
In recent years—coinciding with the rise in violence in Cuba—reports of missing persons have become common, causing great concern among families. Lacking an official channel to make these cases visible, they desperately turn to social media and independent media for help in locating their loved ones.
