On the morning of this Monday, the body of the guard of a central market located across from the headquarters of the Communist Party in Santiago de Cuba was found.

The State Agricultural Market (MAE) "El Santiaguero," located near the Los Ángeles clinic on Garzón Avenue, was cordoned off and heavily guarded by military personnel following the discovery of a body, as reported on social media by journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.

The deceased is an elderly man—identified as Miguel Pérez Sánchez—whom many internet users who knew him have described as a "good person."

Pérez Sánchez, who had no children, lived with his wife on Escario Street.

The police have begun reviewing security cameras near the crime scene, particularly those located around the Provincial Party headquarters, in an effort to identify possible suspects in the murder, the motives for which are still unknown.

So far, no information has been released about potential suspects or the exact circumstances surrounding the guard's death.

The situation has raised alarm among the residents of Santiago, who are questioning how it is possible for a crime to occur in such a central and heavily monitored area.

Several security guards at state or private centers have been injured or killed in Santiago de Cuba in recent months.

In July of this year, the custodian of a notary office in the city was also murdered.

One month earlier, in June, another guard - this time from a cooperative - was brutally murdered in the municipality of San Luis, allegedly by thieves who were attempting to steal his mule.

Previously, in May, a man who worked as a custodian for a small and medium-sized enterprise located at the Santiago de Cuba Aquarium was seriously injured during a robbery at the establishment.
