The Miami-Dade police are searching for Zeniel Francisco Cabrera as the suspected responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on November 11 in the Redland area of Miami-Dade County.
The accident claimed the life of Alexis Muñoz, a 46-year-old Cuban and father of three, who had arrived in the U.S. only six months prior in search of a better life.
The victim's wife, Sahyli Brito-Martínez, visibly affected, asked for help at a press conference to locate the person responsible.
"We come from Cuba like all Cubans, with the dream of a better life," he stated in remarks reported by Telemundo 51.
"Please, anyone who knows the whereabouts of this person, contact the police," urged Brito-Martínez through tears.
"He was a great man; he didn't deserve this," the woman added, who is the mother of the victim's youngest child, a boy of only three years old.
The accident occurred on November 11 at approximately 5:55 a.m. at the intersection of Southwest 208th Street and 194th Avenue in Miami-Dade.
That day, Muñoz, who had just dropped his wife off at her job, was stopped on his scooter waiting to turn left towards his own workplace when he was struck by a gray Ford truck.
According to transit homicide detective Michael Quiñones, the vehicle attempted to pass him on the right, hitting him with a trailer and leaving the victim trapped underneath.
The driver got out of the vehicle, pulled Muñoz's body out, and then fled the scene with the help of a man nicknamed "Rabiche," who picked him up in a red truck.
The suspect, identified as Zeniel Francisco Cabrera, 25 years old, may have fled to Mexico after the incident, according to police.
Authorities also estimate that the driver could return to the United States at any moment, as his girlfriend, who is nine months pregnant, is about to give birth.
The Miami-Dade police are also on the trail of the man who assisted the driver after the accident, a person nicknamed "Rabiche" and described as being in his 50s or 60s.
A reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest in this case.
