Cubans often laugh even at their misfortunes, as the popular saying goes, and these young people have showcased their wit and creativity by creating a parody dedicated to the Electric Union (UNE), which has been causing so much trouble on the island amid the ongoing blackouts.
For the parody, comedian Jorge Miyar and artist Cintia chose the song "Fuiste tú" by Guatemalan singer-songwriters Ricardo Arjona and Gaby Moreno.
"Join you when Felton isn't messed up, Guiteras goes out / A breeze through Pinar del Río and Yateras goes dark / Your thing was the interruptions with the breakdowns / Mine was charging the phone when you came / If the electricity didn't come, the Blu would die," says the first verse of this unique adaptation attuned to the times in Cuba.
Continuing with two voices just like the original theme: “UNE you, it's unnecessary to say how bad things are here / Bernardo Espinosa has me fed up / I never believed a lie from him or watched his reports / Shave your mustache, man, or buy yourself a suit / No one can take you seriously like this, if there's anyone to blame here, it’s UNE you.”
When the chorus arrives, everyone who listened to the first part of the parody expects much more: “Buy an oil tanker once and for all / Invest a few pesos in the starter motor that lit the light that is now fading away / Don’t use the blockade anymore for your convenience, destroying everything without asking questions and leaving it to time for the fatal blow / Nothing more to say, if there’s a guilty party here, say it, UNE you.”
