Two people are in critical condition and two others are seriously injured as a result of the wounds suffered in the tragic collision between two buses in the province of Camagüey last Friday, which resulted in three fatalities and more than 50 injured.

In an updated report before noon this Sunday, Dr. Rodolfo Emilio Rodríguez Rosabal, director of the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital, confirmed to the newspaper Juventud Rebelde that two of the patients admitted to that facility are reported to be in critical condition, another two are serious, and one is stable, while the rest of the injured have been discharged from the hospital.

The seven children who were injured in the mass accident have also been sent home, reported Dr. Andrei Rodríguez Navarro, director of the Eduardo Agramonte Piña Pediatric Hospital, to the correspondent of the state newspaper in Camagüey, Yahily Hernández Porto.

After 7:00 p.m. on Friday, two Yutong buses collided on the Western Bypass of Camagüey (the road leading to the municipality of Florida).

One of the buses was a Transmetro operating under the leasing system that left from Songo La Maya in Santiago de Cuba, and the other was transporting workers from a Military Construction Unit.

A source told independent journalist José Luis Tan Estrada that the cause was likely the driver's unfamiliarity with the area, who ignored a "Stop" sign while attempting to merge onto the Central Highway.

As a result of the collision, three people have lost their lives. At the scene of the accident, Julio Idóneo Torres Reyes, 56 years old, from Havana, who was driving one of the buses, died; while Georgina Barrero Gutiérrez, 49 years old and a resident of Pilón, Granma, did not survive after undergoing surgery for severe abdominal trauma at the “Manuel Ascunce Domenech” hospital.

This Saturday, the number of victims rose to three with the passing of another passenger, Damaris Reyes Rodríguez, 49 years old and a resident of Bayamo, Granma, who was in critical condition.

In the accident, 52 other adults were injured and were taken to the hospital in Camagüey, along with seven children aged between one and 11 years, who were treated at the pediatric facility in Camagüey.
