The family of a young Cuban man in the United States is seeking help for his recovery after suffering a severe cerebrovascular illness.
Leidy Laura Enecono opened an account on the platform GoFundMe to raise funds for her brother, who suffered a brain aneurysm on May 29, 2024.
"My brother's name is Leodan Reyna, he is 36 years old. He has serious sequelae that affect his mobility and speech, he is fed through a gastrostomy tube, and he has breathing difficulties, which is why he also depends on artificial oxygen," he detailed.
"Your health insurance does not cover physical therapy, and it is one of the most important aspects of your recovery process. As a family, we are doing everything we can to provide all your care, but we have not been able to arrange your physical therapy," he added.
So far, $24,433 have been raised, and the goal is to reach $40,000.
The comedian Javier Berridy joined the campaign and shared a video on his social media featuring Leodan's mother, who recounted that after two surgeries, her son was left with significant aftereffects; he will never walk or eat through his mouth again.
Authorities have denied him the disability three times because he is not a U.S. citizen and does not have the required work history.
In a post on Facebook, Leidy Laura asked her acquaintances to share the link so it reaches more people who can donate.
"This donation is for his physical therapy since his health insurance does not cover it, and it is essential for his recovery process from an aneurysm that affected his mobility, speech, and breathing," he clarified.
Originally from Bejucal, where he worked as a barber, Leodán is the father of four children and was working as a truck driver at the time of his illness.
