Surprising response from Bruno Rodríguez when asked about the reasons behind recent U.S. measures towards Cuba

The Cuban Chancellor, Bruno Rodríguez, gave an unusual response when questioned this Wednesday during an meeting with national and international press regarding the reasons behind the recent measures taken by the U.S. government towards Cuba, the most significant of which is the removal of the island from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

"My opinion is that they have taken this action because their plan has failed, because the vision of causing the collapse of the Cuban economy, social upheaval, and the implementation of Mr. Lester Mallory's memorandum to overthrow the Cuban revolution through measures that provoke hunger and desperation, and the overthrow of the government, continue to fall short of their objectives," Rodríguez pointed out.

The Cuban chancellor firmly denied that there is a "collapse of the economy," although he acknowledged that the comprehensive measures of the "Blockade" have created "very difficult circumstances" for the Cuban economy, and that they "generate considerable humanitarian harm, causing difficulties, anxiety, and suffering for Cuban families."

He specifically referred to the consequences of the "intensification" of the measures since 2017, particularly those taken since mid-2019 by "the previous Republican administration," mentioning Donald Trump by name.

"However, the collapse of the economy and the overthrow of the government have not occurred," he added.

"My opinion is that the government of the United States of America has made these decisions based on the recognition that the policy it applied towards Cuba is an outdated, failed policy that does not serve the objectives or national interests of the U.S. nor has the support of American citizens or Cubans residing in that country," added the Cuban Foreign Minister in another outrageous statement.

"It is the recognition that it causes him severe international isolation, discrediting of his foreign policy, and that it damages the instrument he supposedly needs to accomplish certain objectives of his international agenda," he specified.

Finally, the Foreign Minister emphasized that there are "advances" in Cuba, and that "the support of the Cuban people for the revolution remains, continues to persist."

On January 14, shortly after the Biden Administration announced the removal of Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism and the suspension of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (MINREX) announced the imminent release of 553 individuals, convicted of "various offenses" on the island.
