Three "hooded" thieves, taking advantage of the fact that a family was sleeping, entered a private business in Mayarí, Holguín, from which they stole items valued at three million pesos.
The robbery took place in the early morning of last Wednesday, January 15, according to a report by the official communicator Emilio Rodríguez Pupo on Facebook.
The source specified that the criminals "violated the family’s private business," located at 64 Martí Street, in the aforementioned municipality of Holguín.
According to Emilio Rodríguez, “a dynamic investigative process” enabled the majority of the articles to be located and returned to their rightful owners, who he identified as “Juan Carlos Grau Ávila and family.”
Apparently, the stolen merchandise was mainly clothing, flip-flops, and various items, according to several photos shared by the source.
"The timely report and citizen collaboration aided the work of the DTI investigators," concluded Rodríguez Pupo, who did not provide further details about the incident nor identified by name the alleged hooded individuals, who are said to have already been apprehended.
As of the publication of this note, there are no further details about the case.
In recent years, coinciding with the growing economic crisis in Cuba, thefts of all kinds have proliferated across the country, affecting both individuals and various state entities.
At the same time, periodically, government-affiliated sources report on social media about the resolution of police cases—whether they involve thefts or violent incidents—as a way to demonstrate that the authorities are indeed addressing the rise in crime.
However, many citizens are complaining about the passivity of the authorities in response to thefts and other forms of crime.
