According to the images, the vehicle appears to be a Peugeot 301, which is used for rental to tourists, although the license plate is not visible.

A member of the group stated that he crashed into a tree, not another car.

Another person stated that the vehicle was rented by a Cuban resident in the United States who is visiting San Diego del Valle, a locality in the municipality of Cifuentes.

Several internet users commented that the cause of the accident was speeding, and that perhaps the poor condition of the road played a role.

"If it were going at 60 km, the car wouldn't be in the condition it's in. Speed killed that one," emphasized one.

"For that car to be like that, it must have come in at more than 120 km," added a resident of Granma.

This week, a police report indicated that drivers are the main culprits of traffic accidents in Cuba, assessing the causes of road incidents in the country during 2024.

Failing to pay proper attention to vehicle control was the main cause, followed by disrespecting the right of way and speeding.

Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Transit Authority, indicated that in 2024, the number of accidents, fatalities, and injuries decreased. There were 7,507 incidents (a 12% decrease compared to 2023), with 634 deaths (a 13% decrease) and 6,613 injured (down by 4%).

According to the official, failing to properly attend to vehicle operation caused 30% of accidents. Although incidents resulting from not respecting right-of-way decreased, these situations accounted for the highest number of fatalities, at 29.9%.

Fewer accidents due to speeding were reported, and there was also a decrease in deaths and injuries caused by this factor. However, this issue "remains extremely dangerous; each accident results in at least one injury, and one fatality occurs for every seven incidents."
