The Cuban presenter and activist Alexander Otaola called for the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) to be declared a "terrorist group."

Through his social media, Otaola expressed gratitude for the support of Republican Senator Rick Scott in his efforts to tighten sanctions against the Cuban regime and further the struggle for the freedom of the island's people.

"Thank you, Senator @scottforflorida, for your interest and dedication in helping to achieve freedom for the Cuban people. It is time to act decisively. 2025 is the year of freedom for Cubans," wrote Otaola on Instagram, accompanying his message with an image of a handwritten note from the legislator expressing his willingness to collaborate in the cause.

The post by Otaola also included a strong message: "Cuba is a danger to the national security of the United States. The PCC must be declared a terrorist group in the hemisphere. Steps for change now!"

Otaola's request comes amid renewed pressure on the Cuban government from U.S. lawmakers and the Trump administration, with Cuban-American Marco Rubio leading the State Department.

Recently, Republican Senators Scott and Tommy Tuberville reintroduced the Denying Profit to the Military Oligarchy in Cuba and Restricting Activities of the Cuban Intelligence Apparatus Act (DEMOCRACY, for its acronym in English).

This legislation aims to strengthen economic sanctions, hinder the financial activities of the island's security apparatus, and ensure unrestricted internet access for Cubans. Scott noted that the Cuban regime is "the root of instability in Latin America and a constant threat to the national security of the United States".

Otaola, who has become one of the most active voices of the Cuban community in exile, has promoted various initiatives to sanction the government of Miguel Díaz-Canel and limit its sources of funding.

His call to classify the PCC as a terrorist organization strengthens the stance of exiles and lawmakers seeking greater restrictions against the totalitarian power structure that has prevailed in Cuba for over 60 years.
