A large fire broke out Saturday afternoon in cane fields near the area of the Honduras sugar mill, in the municipality of Manuel Tames, Guantánamo.

The firefighters, along with workers from the Victoria de Girón agricultural production cooperative (CPA), have been working all afternoon and night to extinguish the flames.
According to the user of Facebook "Portal Del Ciudadano Manuel Tames", the incident was caused by "social indiscipline," as individuals chose to burn areas that had already been harvested.
Allegedly, they did not take into account the strong gusts of wind, which caused the flames to spread rapidly.
The incident forced the closure of vehicle traffic in the area until the fire was completely extinguished.
In addition, a pole supporting the 33,000 Volt power lines was damaged, leading to the disconnection of that line from Jamaica (the main town of the Manuel Tames municipality) to the Yateras municipality for assessment and subsequent replacement.
At the time of writing this note, there has been no official new information regarding the firefighting efforts.
