Cuban broadcaster Yunior Morales announced this Tuesday that he has obtained his residency in the United States, through a Facebook post where he shared his excitement and gratitude for this new immigration status.

"After checking the mailbox, I am more grateful, happy, excited... Yunior Morales is now a Resident of the United States. I'm going to celebrate, damn it," he wrote alongside images showing the official documentation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as well as a photo of him in front of the Statue of Liberty.

Morales left Cuba in 2023 and passed through Mexico before arriving in the United States. In September 2023, while waiting for his appointment with CBP One, he reported that Tapachula was "full of Cubans" and that they were behaving with discipline while waiting their turn for the immigration interview. "Most of the Cubans in Chiapas, Tapachula, are not looking to cause problems; they are focused on their CBP One application and request their appointment for the interview every day," he stated at that time.

Days later, Morales arrived at the border and finally obtained the humanitarian parole that allowed him to enter the U.S. "Good parole with all the benefits. Time to work and move forward. Many wishes to work in whatever I can, but with my dignity at no cost. Grateful," he published at that time.

Soon after, he stated that his departure from Cuba represented a liberation: "When you finally manage to get on the plane, and leave and arrive in another place, you think 'wow, I made it out'. Notice that I was short of breath at home, and here I no longer have that problem. I feel much better, like I freed myself from something very ugly, horrible."

Since his arrival, Morales has maintained a critical stance against the Cuban regime. In July 2024, he shared a video depicting a purchase at an American supermarket and stated: "I am enjoying the blessing of being free, of having dignity and not settling for misery, and accepting that God rewards the brave."

In September, he reported that the Cuban regime had ordered the removal of his voice from official media as part of the censorship against those who criticize the regime. "Eliminate all the voices of the announcer Yunior Morales," he stated was the order given at the station Radio Ciudad del Mar and the channel Perlavisión. "Being an announcer was a personal achievement that will never take precedence over my human values. I started at 23 years old, I was evaluated, I had a lot of content, I can only imagine how thoroughly they had to scrutinize various stations and television channels to erase me."

With the acquisition of his residency, the speaker reaffirms his integration into life in the U.S., a country where he has expressed feeling completely free.
