A Cuban, a bus driver, was murdered in the municipality of Bayamo, in the province of Granma, while attempting to steal his belongings.

The victim, identified as Antonio Díaz Méndez, was stabbed by an unknown assailant while waiting for transportation to go to work, at a stop in the reparto Rosa La Bayamesa.

The victim tried to defend themselves using a piggy bank they had with them, but the injuries were fatal, according to testimonies on social media.

Guardians who witnessed the attack—which occurred on February 14—rushed to his aid and transported him urgently to the local hospital.

However, the lack of necessary medical resources to provide him with proper care worsened his condition, according to a post in the Facebook group "Desaparecidos dentro de Cuba Somos tu voz."

He underwent surgery up to three times, as revealed by a family member on social media.

Despite the efforts of his family members, who sought medications on their own, Díaz Méndez passed away.

"This man battled between life and death. He is my cousin, Antonio Díaz Méndez. He just passed away as a result of three wounds inflicted by murderous individuals who attacked him to steal his belongings," wrote the victim's cousin, Jorge Díaz Domínguez, on Facebook.

"How long will this violence continue? Rest in peace, may God keep him in glory. My condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones," he added.

So far, no suspects have been identified in the crime, and the family fears that this violent act will go unpunished.
