An American Airlines plane that had started to descend on the same runway at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington had to abort the maneuver and turn to avoid a collision with another aircraft that was taking off.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 8:20 AM, when American Airlines Flight 2246, arriving from Boston, followed the instructions of an air traffic controller, reported the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

In a statement, the airline reported that the flight "landed safely and normally" at the National Airport.

According to the note shared by the AP agency, the pilots were instructed to perform a go-around "to give another aircraft more time for takeoff."

This incident occurred just two hours before a Southwest Airlines flight from Omaha, Nebraska, also had to abort its landing at Chicago's Midway International Airport, when a Flexjet private jet dangerously entered its flight path.

Images captured by security cameras showed how the Southwest plane briefly touched the runway before the pilot executed a maneuver and quickly ascended again to avoid a collision.

Fortunately, neither the passengers nor the crew were injured.

So far this year, several aircraft accidents have occurred in the United States, some resulting in fatalities.

This incident adds to a series of air accidents that have occurred in recent weeks in the United States, both in the military and civilian sectors.

The most serious incident occurred on January 29 when a commercial airplane and a military helicopter collided near the capital, resulting in the deaths of 67 people.

On February 7, a small passenger plane crashed in Alaska. As a result, ten people lost their lives.
