A coach of the Miami Springs Little League baseball team, originally Cuban, is accused of possession of child pornography, following his arrest last Thursday, authorities reported.

Adrián Cotera, 37 years old, was arrested for possessing at least 20 videos of child pornography, after police received a cyber tip linking his IP address to the downloading of pornographic material involving minors, the Miami Springs Police Department reported in a statement on social media.

The investigation was initiated following the alert received on February 21 by the police, who traced the suspicious activity to Cotera's residence in Miami Springs, where detectives discovered explicit material involving children that had been downloaded from his home.

Cotera, who had no prior criminal record, was arrested on February 27 at his home and faces 20 counts of first-degree felonies for possession of child pornography.

The officers found a weapon and several grams of cocaine in the house, according to the arrest report cited by media sources, for which he also faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance with a weapon.

Once arrested, Cotera confessed to the crimes he is accused of.

The defendant, who is a family man, appeared before the Miami-Dade court on Friday, where Judge Mindy Glazer set a bail of $40,000 and ordered him to stay away from any minors, including his own children.

Cotera was serving as a volunteer coach for the Miami Springs Little League.

In a statement released after the incident became known, the league's president, Fred González, expressed that the organization was aware of Cotera's arrest and made it clear that he is "no longer a volunteer coach for Miami Springs Little League."

"We are very proud of the work that the Miami Springs Police Department continues to do to keep our community safe," González emphasized.

Parents of children who attended baseball training are very affected and concerned by the news. Alina Blanco, a resident of Miami Springs, told America TeVé: “That situation is really frightening, because 20 charges of child pornography are alarming; I have a small grandson and I saw that he is coach here, where our children are, it’s terrifying.”

The police said that the investigation is still active and ongoing.

The lead that led to Cotera's arrest was obtained through cybersecurity agencies monitoring dark web sites linked to the distribution of illegal material, experts stated to television networks.
