The Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez sent a large floral wreath in tribute to the musician Edesio Alejandro, who passed away this Wednesday, March 5 in Spain at the age of 66, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

In a post by the official journalist Roberto A Paneque Fonseca this Friday, the floral offering, mostly composed of white carnations, was displayed this Thursday, March 6, alongside the mortal remains of Edesio Alejandro.

In the decoration, a ribbon reads: "To Edesio Alejandro, from President Miguel Díaz-Canel." The other wreath displayed at the wake belonged to the musician's family.

According to Paneque's note, Díaz-Canel's wreath was a gesture that was appreciated by the family of the composer and the friends attending the funeral home at the El Jardín cemetery in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid.

"It was an honor to have the presence of Master Flores Chaviano, who was a mentor and teacher to Edesio and was also at the hospital with his family the day before, along with the Counselor Minister of the Embassy of Cuba in Spain and the Consul General of Cuba," he said.

The tribute was also attended by Joaquín Mulén, a Cuban communicator and music expert; Oniel Moisés Uriarte Orbeal, a promoter of Cuban music; Michel Hernández, a Cuban journalist; and Jorge Díaz Valera, an artist and son of the Cuban composer Ricardo Díaz.

For his part, journalist Jesus Díaz Loyola announced that the funeral of Edesio Alejandro will take place on Monday, March 10 at 7:00 PM at the Santa María de la Esperanza parish, Ramón y Cajal 3, Alcobendas, Madrid.

The guitarist passed away on March 5 in Alcalá de Henares, northeast of Madrid, where he lived with his wife Idolka de Erviti, following a deterioration in his health.

Edesio Alejandro is a prominent figure in Cuban music, recognized both in his country and internationally. Innovative and versatile, his work spanned genres such as rock and electronic music and he was also a prolific composer of soundtracks for film and television.

Following the news of his passing, numerous figures from the music world, such as producer and publicist Eliam M. Marrero Bernal, and the actor, singer, and music promoter known as Miguel Elkubanisimo, have expressed their condolences.

The latter had opened an account on the GoFundMe platform to raise money for an alternative treatment that would extend Edesio's life by one or two years. The cost of the therapy amounted to 36,000 euros.
