Lazarito Valdés, the director of the Cuban group Bamboleo, is one of many artists who left Cuba and settled in Miami in search of a better future for his family and his career in music.
In an interview for the podcast Destino Tolk, the controversial topic of the political stances of Cuban artists in exile regarding the dictatorship in Cuba was brought to light, and Lazarito's response was emphatic.
The host of the show Destino Positivo suggested that the director of Bamboleo is one of the artists on Alexander Otaola's red list to be deported to the island, like Flor de Cuba, El Micha, and Alexander Abreu, to which he reacted.
“I am not a politician, I don't get involved in politics, my thing is making music”, the artist stated.
Lazarito reflected that when interviewing a politician, they do not talk about music, yet they expect musicians to talk about politics.
“I'm not interested in politics, I came to the United States because this is the best country in the world, the best music in the world comes from here, I came with a strong desire to grow in my piano skills and develop as an artist,” added the director.
The musical director and pianist confirmed in November of last year his decision to settle in the United States in an interview with La Casa de Maka.
When discussing this decision, the artist said on his social media that it was about "a second chance to be born."
