A thief was caught in the Camilo Cienfuegos neighborhood of Bayamo after committing two robberies the same day, but his latest victim managed to apprehend him after a confrontation.

According to a report from the page of Facebook "Stay Informed with Aytana Alama", the individual took advantage of a moment of negligence in a house, where the owner left the latch not fully closed while visiting her neighbor.

Upon noticing the opportunity, the thief stealthily entered and stole a backpack and a laptop without leaving any traces, highlighting the page aligned with the Cuban regime.

Unsatisfied with what he had stolen, he continued on his path until he found a second house, where a pair of sneakers and flip-flops had been left drying on the second floor.

Although there was a person in the house, the burglar managed to steal the shoes without being seen at that moment.

However, his criminal streak did not last long, as someone alerted the owner of the second house about what had happened, who was able to intercept him and confront him, managing to subdue him with the help of neighbors.

Subsequently, the authorities arrived at the scene and, after identifying the suspect, confirmed that he was also responsible for the first robbery of the day.

Although the regime's spokesperson page highlighted the fact as an achievement, the reality is that many citizens are forced to seek justice on their own due to police ineffectiveness and a sense of vulnerability.

In recent months, insecurity in Cuba has become an increasing concern for the population. The lack of police on the streets and the ineffective response from the authorities have created a situation where citizens are compelled to take action in the face of a wave of crime.

The most recent case occurred in Havana, where a group of neighbors managed to apprehend a thief who attempted to assault a high school student. The criminal, who was operating in the Diez de Octubre municipality, was subdued by passersby until the police arrived. In the same area, just a few days earlier, a similar incident took place when a thief who robbed an elderly woman was detained by citizens and handed over to the authorities.

This reality is repeating itself in various provinces. In Artemisa, residents stopped a man accused of thefts and assaults in the area, holding him until the police arrived (Residents catch a thief and assailant in Artemisa). In Villa Clara, a group of neighbors caught an animal thief who was operating in the area, while in Cienfuegos, the swift reaction of citizens prevented a young man from getting away after stealing a cell phone from a woman in broad daylight.

Desperation over the lack of security has even led to violent reactions from the population. In Havana, neighbors beat a man accused of assaulting a child, thwarting his escape attempt before he was apprehended by the police (Neighbors beat a man detained for assaulting a child in Havana). In another incident, a supposed assailant in Boyeros was beaten by the crowd after being captured.

In the face of the increase in robberies and crimes, citizens' responses have become a reflection of the authorities' neglect and the lack of police presence on the streets. Without protection or trust in institutions, Cubans have chosen to take justice into their own hands, exposing themselves to risky and uncertain situations.
