Authorities in Santiago de Cuba recently apprehended several armed assailants operating in the city, committing violent robberies against pedestrians.

In various operations, the police succeeded in apprehending individuals involved in these criminal activities, recovering stolen items and restoring safety in Reparto Sueño and its surroundings.

The profile of Facebook “Héroes del Moncada”, aligned with the regime and spokesperson for the MININT, reported that one of the incidents occurred on Avenida Las Américas, near the Estadio Guillermón Moncada, where an individual identified as Yasmani threatened a young man with a knife to steal his Samsung A11 phone and wallet.

The victim reported the assault, and within a few hours, the police managed to capture the suspect and recover the stolen items.

In another incident that occurred in the same neighborhood, a group of criminals was caught and detained by the authorities after committing a series of nighttime robberies with knives, emphasized the official profile.

According to witnesses, the assailants had been operating in the area for some time, attacking pedestrians and robbing them of their cell phones, wallets, chains, and other valuable belongings.

During the arrest, the agents managed to recover several stolen items, including a bicycle, a gold chain, and clothing, which had been taken days earlier from a young man.

These actions, shared on social media as examples of the regime's forces' effectiveness, also highlight the level of insecurity faced by the population and the rise in violence, where the use of bladed weapons plays a concerning role.

In recent months, violence in Cuba has been on the rise, with multiple incidents reflecting the growing insecurity on the island. Recently, in Matanzas, authorities arrested a man with an unregistered shotgun in his vehicle, raising concerns about illegal access to firearms in the country.

The detention coincided with the approval of a new decree by the Cuban regime to tighten control over weapons and ammunition, justifying it as a measure to enhance security and align with international standards.

However, despite these regulations, acts of violence continue to rise. In Camagüey, an elderly woman was brutally beaten during a blackout with the aim of stealing her possessions, an incident that reflects how the lack of electricity increases the vulnerability of the population.

The Cuban government itself, which until recently denied the increase in crime, acknowledged in June 2024 the rise of criminal violence, including the use of firearms in robberies and confrontations. The lack of resources and the economic crisis have been highlighted as key factors in this phenomenon, creating an atmosphere of fear among citizens.
