Andy García, a young Cuban who arrived in Bierzo, a region located in the province of León, Spain, at the beginning of this year, has created the first cocktail inspired by the mining of the region.

Her arrival in Ponferrada was through the microcredential in Management and Marketing of the Wine Industry, offered at the University of León, as part of a training project promoted by the international cooperation association Looking Toward the Future.

This initiative provides opportunities for young people in vulnerable situations in Cuba by training them in gastronomy and bartending.

The miner's cocktail by Andy García, a young man from Havana, is a symbolic blend of cava, blueberries, and a sprinkle of charcoal, representing the fusion between the history of Bercian mining and Cuban culture.

This beverage is not just an innovative offering in mixology, but also a self-financing tool for Mirando Hacia el Futuro, aimed at continuing to develop social projects in Cuba.

The drink was presented last Friday at the Pozo Julia de Fabero, an iconic venue of local mining.

During the event, García offered a masterclass to representatives from the hospitality sector interested in incorporating the recipe into their establishments and contributing to the expansion of the mining cocktail.

The project has received support from the Municipality of Ponferrada and the University of León, which finance the micro-credential, while the association manages the accommodation and maintenance for the young Cubans.

However, as noted by Yunia Sánchez, president of Mirando Hacia el Futuro, public funding is not always guaranteed, making it essential to find new ways to support the educational and social program.

The idea for the cocktail originated at the most recent International Tourism Fair (Fitur) at the end of January, where Sánchez presented the proposal to the Tourism department of Fabero.

"We rescue young people from the streets in Cuba and educate them so that they can turn that training into a means of livelihood. There are individuals aged between 16 and 50, and our goal is for them to be able to start their own business," Sánchez explained.

With this cocktail dusted with charcoal, the story of resilience and effort of these young people transcends the glass in which it is served, becoming a symbol of hope and new opportunities.

The original news was published by Diario de León and can be consulted on its website.
