A joke could cost a woman from the Dominican Republic dearly, as she was arrested at Miami International Airport this Sunday after saying she had a bomb in her bag, according to authorities.

Carmen Rosa Solís Leroux, a 55-year-old swimming instructor from Santo Domingo, was waiting in line at MIA on Sunday night when an airport employee asked her to consolidate the three bags she was carrying.

The woman refused to do it, alleging that one of them contained a bomb, according to the employee's statement to the police, recorded in the arrest report.

An agent pulled Solís Leroux out of the line and detained her for questioning. "I was just joking," were her words.

According to news outlets, K-9 units were deployed to search the area and the woman's luggage, but no explosives were found.

Solís Leroux was arrested around 7:30 p.m. at Terminal D of the airport for filing a false report, and was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

The Dominican citizen faces a charge of making a false report about the placement of a bomb, an explosive, or a weapon of mass destruction, or about the violent use of firearms, a second-degree felony, reported the channel Local 10 News.

In January, an abandoned backpack in a busy area of Brickell, Miami, triggered a bomb threat alert, prompting police action and creating tension among pedestrians. Bomb squad experts inspected the suspicious bag and determined that there was no danger. Three individuals were arrested during the police operation.

A false bomb threat led to a precautionary shutdown and a significant police presence at Hialeah Senior High School in the city of Hialeah in early December.
