The Culinary Federation of Cuba confirmed this Thursday the passing of its president, Eddy Fernández Monte, an emblematic figure of the institution to which he dedicated more than four decades of his life in defense of Creole cuisine.

“Eddy Fernández Monte has passed away, a victim of a fatal blow from life. The news has taken us all by surprise; his giant heart has stopped beating,” the union expressed in a statement published on the social network Facebook, which does not specify the cause of death.

According to the note, Fernández Monte was a man deeply committed to his profession. He started from the most humble positions in the kitchen and, after training alongside great masters, went on to lead the federation that brings together culinary arts professionals in the country.

Among his main legacies is the creation of the Artechef Project, to which he dedicated “his soul, heart, and his own life,” as stated in the announcement.
