The educational community of Miami is in mourning for the sudden death of Lucas Osuna, a 15-year-old student and athlete from Belen Jesuit Prep School, who passed away unexpectedly while participating in a water polo tournament.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Friday during an invitational tournament held at Ransom Everglades, where parents and referees desperately tried to save his life.

Osuna, a tenth-grade student and a prominent member of the school's water polo team, began playing this sport in sixth grade with the Miami Whitecaps Water Polo Club.

Around 3:00 pm, the school issued an official statement confirming the sudden tragedy.

"Lucas Osuna, a second-year student, was an exceptional student who loved his family, school, friends, and teachers. He started at Belén in sixth grade and made a deep impact on everyone who knew him. We ask for privacy for his family during this time and, above all, prayers for the rest of his soul and comfort for those he loved and who loved him," says the text.

Mike Osuna, the boy's father, bid farewell on to his beloved son, whom they affectionately called "Thor".

"Like a true superhero, he embodied perseverance, determination, and the overcoming of all the obstacles that life placed in his way," he wrote.

The mayor of Miami, Francis Suárez, who knows the Osuna family, expressed his support on social media: "To the entire Belén community, and especially to Lucas's family and friends, please know that Miami is with you in this time of unimaginable loss."

The Miami Whitecaps Water Polo club also paid tribute to the young athlete: "You will always be in our hearts. We will miss you. An incredible, intelligent, kind, and very fun person."
