The young baseball player passed away on Tuesday at the young age of 24.

The Isle of Youth bid a massive and heartfelt farewell this Wednesday to the young baseball player Dorvis Navarro Queralta, who passed away suddenly on Tuesday.

The remains of the young pitcher were buried on March 26 in his hometown, where they were accompanied by a crowd of family, friends, and fans who filled the streets of the Special Municipality to bid their final farewell.

In a post on X, the director of the Pirates team, Maikel Mccoy Gutiérrez, shared images of the honor guard formed by the teammates of Navarro Queralta, and in passing, clarified the cause of death of the young athlete at 24 years old.

Although it was initially reported by several sources that the cause of death was a heart attack, Mccoy Gutiérrez specified that the passing was caused by an "aortic aneurysm".

What is an aortic aneurysm?

An aortic aneurysm is an abnormal dilation of a part of the aorta, which is the main artery responsible for carrying blood from the heart to the rest of the body.

This dilation occurs due to a weakening of the arterial wall, causing it to expand like a balloon. Aneurysms can develop in different parts of the aorta, with the most common being those found in the abdomen (abdominal aortic aneurysm) and in the chest (thoracic aortic aneurysm).

The greatest danger is that it can rupture and cause severe internal bleeding, which poses a risk to life.

Its most common causes include atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, smoking, and hereditary factors.

Often, it does not present any symptoms, but it can cause pain in the abdomen, chest, or back, or a pulsing sensation in the navel.

The treatment depends on the size and risk of rupture: it may involve medical monitoring or open or endovascular surgery.

"EPD, champion. Fly high, Navarro," expressed Leandro Peña on social media, amidst the waves of grief following the unexpected death of the young Cuban athlete.
