Family members of the Cuban Yannelis De La Caridad Casales Antón, who was murdered by her partner in the early hours of March 30 in the city of Jacksonville, are seeking help to cover her funeral expenses in the U.S. and to later repatriate her body to the island.
"Her parents want to say goodbye to her", wrote the journalist from Univision, Javier Díaz, who shared the link to an account on the fundraising platform GoFundMe.
The fundraising campaign has set a goal of $16,000, of which by the time of this report they have managed to raise $8,361 from a total of 214 donations.
Atrocious femicide committed by a Cuban recently arrived in the U.S.
Carlos Yordanis Aldana, a 38-year-old Cuban, was arrested this weekend after fatally stabbing 30-year-old Yannelis De La Caridad Casales Antón.
The femicide occurred in the early hours of Sunday at an apartment complex in the Arlington area of Jacksonville, in Duval County, Florida.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the assailant with stab wounds on his left hand and left shin. Aldana was treated by paramedics at the scene and later transported to a local hospital for treatment.
During the inspection of the site, the officers followed a trail of blood that led them from where the body of the woman with multiple stab wounds was found.
After being discharged from the hospital, he was transferred to the Duval County jail, where he remains in custody.
According to reports on social media, the Cuban woman had been living in the U.S. for three years. On March 17, a video posted on the victim's Facebook profile showed the couple's reunion at an airport, which appears to have been the arrival of the now murderer in the United States.
