The authorities in South Miami are searching for a man accused of stealing a wallet from a restaurant located at the intersection of Southwest 58th Avenue and 72nd Street, on Sunset Drive, this past Wednesday around 2:00 PM.
The suspect, captured by security cameras, employed a calculated method to steal the purse of a customer who was having lunch with her daughter.
"I had my bag on the back of the chair and I noticed that he passed by our table several times before sitting down. It was at that moment that he took the opportunity to steal my wallet," the victim, identified as Tara, reported to Telemundo 51.
The security video shows the thief, dressed in black shorts and a black T-shirt, wearing a hat and a blue shirt on top, sitting directly behind the woman, pressed against the wall.
In a deliberate move, he takes off his shirt to conceal his actions, rummages through her purse, and pulls out the wallet. Then he puts his shirt back on and leaves calmly.
After realizing that her wallet was missing, the user asked the restaurant staff for help. No one had noticed anything unusual until they checked the recordings.
The stolen wallet was from the brand Gucci, made of red leather. Inside, it had 30 dollars in cash, credit cards, and the owner's identification.
A few minutes after the robbery, the suspect tried to use one of the credit cards at a store in the Dadeland Mall and attempted to make a purchase exceeding $2,000. However, the owner had already blocked them.
The South Miami Police are requesting the public's assistance in identifying the suspect.
The video from the restaurant was shared with the media, and it clearly shows the thief, a white man between 30 and 40 years old. Two tattoos are noticeable: a large one on his left shoulder and a red minion on his left calf.
Sergeant Fernando Bosh of the South Miami Police urged the community to check their account statements and report any unusual or suspicious activity, as there are suspicions that the individual may have carried out similar thefts in the same area.
"This individual is not a frequent customer of the restaurant, so we believe he might be using the same method at other places," he commented.
Anyone with information can contact the South Miami Police at (305) 663-6301, or the Crime Stoppers hotline at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
