A cold front will affect the western region of Cuba this week

This front will be preceded by showers, rain, and thunderstorms, followed by a slight drop in temperatures.

A cold front will arrive in western Cuba this Tuesday, as confirmed by Cuban meteorologists. The lowest temperatures are expected on Thursday.

Raydel Ruisánchez, a specialist from the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET), confirmed this Saturday that forecasts suggest the event is moving through the Gulf of Mexico and will reach the western part of Cuba on Tuesday afternoon.

In its statement, it was announced that starting Tuesday morning, cloud cover will increase, with possibilities of isolated showers. Rainfall will be more frequent in the afternoon, and some thunderstorms are not ruled out.

"The wind will be variable and light, blowing between the southwest and west at speeds of 10 to 25 km/h. By Wednesday the 9th, it will shift to blowing from the north at speeds of 15 to 30 km/h. As for the state of the sea, little wave activity is expected, gradually increasing until reaching swells along the northwestern coast," he said.

Although Monday will be warm, an additional drop in temperatures is expected by Wednesday, with lows possibly ranging between 15 and 18°C.

In the latest weather report, INSMET explained that on Tuesday the sky will be partly cloudy, becoming overcast with a high chance of rain. That day, minimum temperatures will range between 21 and 23 ℃, with maximums around 28-31 ℃. The wind will be weak and variable, blowing from the southwest to the west in the afternoon with gusts between 5-20 km/h.

On Wednesday, there is also a high likelihood of rain. The sky will be overcast in the morning and partly cloudy in the afternoon.

Minimum temperatures will range from 20 to 22 ℃, with maximums between 24 and 26 ℃. The wind will come from the north at speeds of 15-30 km/h. There will be swells on the northern coast with waves of 1.6 meters and little surf on the southern coast with waves of 0.5m.

On Thursday, temperatures will drop to 15-19 ℃, with highs ranging from 26-29℃. On Friday, they will hover around 17-20 ℃, with maximums around 28-30℃. The northeast wind will blow at speeds between 10-25 km/h.

At the end of March, Cuba experienced a significant drop in temperatures, recording the lowest value of the month in several regions of the country.

According to the Institute of Meteorology of Cuba (INSMET), the coldest minimum temperatures were reported in areas of the western and central parts of the country, where the thermometers recorded values below 12 degrees Celsius.

The combination of minimal cloud cover, light winds, and favorable conditions for nighttime cooling caused a significant drop in temperatures, especially in inland areas.

The most striking aspect was that in some regions of the west and center of the island, values dropped to unusual levels for this time of year, the statement emphasized.

Although in April the temperatures won't drop as much, Cubans will have to take out their coats again.
