In recent hours, new details have emerged about the murder of a woman on Monday at the hands of a man who turned out to be her husband, and who, after committing the crime, took his own life.

The victim, of Nicaraguan origin, has been identified as Indiana del Socorro Guzmán, who was killed by Reynaldo Sandoval, also a native of Nicaragua.

The tragic event occurred on the morning of this April 14th at the building housing the well-known company Del Toro Insurance, located at the intersection of 42nd Street and 27th Avenue in the northwest (NW) of Miami.

According to local police, around 8:00 a.m. they received reports of gunfire at the location.

Upon arrival, the officers found a woman and a man dead, both with apparent gunshot wounds. Firefighters also responded to the scene, but both had already passed away.

A story that began in Nicaragua and ended in tragedy

María Guzmán, sister of Indiana, spoke exclusively with Telemundo 51 and shared heartbreaking details about the case.

“I came with her two years ago, I brought her alive, now I have to take her away dead”, he expressed with deep sadness.

According to an arrest warrant dated April 2, Indiana del Socorro Guzmán and Reynaldo Sandoval had maintained a nine-year relationship that began in Nicaragua, where they got married four years ago.

However, according to the victim's sister, the relationship deteriorated over time, marked by jealousy and the man's control over his partner.

A marriage in crisis and a looming threat

According to María, the disagreements between the couple intensified due to Sandoval's jealousy, which manifested in possessive and violent behavior.

“If a customer called her, he would get upset, and that's where the whole problem started,” explained the sister.

Sandoval already had a history of domestic violence. According to police reports, he violated a restraining order on three consecutive occasions, on March 8, 9, and 10.

This behavior resulted in an arrest. Despite being "practically separated," they both continued to live in the same apartment.

The situation became even more critical when one morning, as María Guzmán recounted, "he broke down her bedroom door and hit her. She had to flee the house at 5 in the morning to my brother's house because he wanted to kill her."

In her March report, Indiana del Socorro also noted that Sandoval was systematically harassing her through phone calls, social media, and text messages. The pattern of harassment was constant and alarming.

“I told him to go to another state where he wouldn’t know about her, and she said no, that she knew he could do many things, but he would never harm her”, he added.

The outcome was, however, the worst possible.

"For worse, he didn't even have the guts and took his own life. And he left an entire family behind. My mother is hospitalized at this moment," lamented María Guzmán.

Guzmán recalled with anguish the moment he arrived at the scene on Monday. He asked the police if his sister had suffered, and the officers replied that she had not, that the shot had been to the heart.

What does the ex-wife of the deceased man say?

A woman who identified herself as the ex-partner of the deceased man stated, in remarks to America Tevé, that the murdered young woman had come two years ago from Nicaragua thanks to Reynaldo Sandoval granting her and her sister parole, that is, María Guzmán, the woman who was interviewed by Telemundo 51.

The woman, who did not identify herself by name, would be the mother of three children with the deceased, and claimed that the young woman who was now murdered started working at Del Toro Insurance thanks to him.

He criticized that, despite the imposition of a restraining order, the company let him go—who worked in the maintenance department—and not her.

Del Toro Insurance issued a statement condemning the events and expressing its sorrow for the loss of its employee: “It was an entirely unprovoked crime of passion against one of our employees, who was on duty and serving the community.”

Although the company took measures to protect Indiana, including the dismissal of Sandoval, these were not sufficient.

During a press conference this Monday, Police Captain Freddie Cruz stated that both Indiana and Sandoval were the only people in the building at the time of the shooting.
