Cuban dancer dies in accident in the U.S. and her family seeks help to repatriate her remains

A young Cuban dancer, originally from Bayamo in the Granma province, and residing in Austin, Texas, passed away in a tragic traffic accident, details of which have not been disclosed.

Friends and acquaintances have launched a fundraising campaign to repatriate the remains of the young woman, identified as May Lago Pérez.

Through social media messages, support has been requested so that the family of the young Cuban woman can say goodbye to her as she deserves.

“Good evening, with this post we are asking for help from anyone who can contribute even a little in order to bring May's body to Cuba. Please place your hand on your heart, as there is a mother suffering from not being able to have her daughter's body to see her one last time and give her the burial she deserves...”, wrote Beba Salazar Reyes.

Salazar also shared the phone number of the young woman's sister, who is handling the repatriation process from the United States: +1 254 229 9093. Donations through Zelle can be made in the name of Tahimi Fonseca Pérez, as Salazar Reyes specified in the comments section of his post.

The pain of loss has also been expressed from Cuba. Julio César Chacón, director of the Musical Shows Company Cabaret & Dance Cuba, to which May belonged while she lived on the island.

“Today we received the news of the tragic and fatal accident involving our dancer May Lago Pérez. Our Maiyendri. Rest in peace to our beloved girl. The Cabaret & Dance Cuba company is in mourning forever. Our condolences to her entire family, especially to her mother and husband,” wrote on Facebook.

In another post, Chacón reiterated the call for solidarity, especially to former members of the company living in the U.S.

"To all who were part of this prestigious musical entertainment company from Granma-Cuba and are now residing in the U.S., please contribute a piece of your heart to repatriate our dancer May Lago Pérez. May she rest in peace with the Lord," he requested.
