Much has been speculated about the relationship between El Taiger and his killer Damián Valdez-Galloso, and the fact that they were close made his death even more tragic and unacceptable to his inner circle.
In an interview for the program Destino Tolk, the producer and composer The Yabo, who in addition to being a friend of El Taiger worked with him for a decade writing several of his songs, revealed details about the relationship between the reggaeton artist and Damián.
The influencer Destino Positivo asked if he ever had the chance to meet Damián personally around El Taiger: “Of course, I saw him in the studio a few times.”
At that moment, he was a person I saw as a fan; he was just another fan of Jose. However, over the years, and based on the fact that Jose was no longer feeling well about himself due to certain things he was doing that he shouldn't have been doing, he started to exhibit inappropriate behavior, not only towards that person but towards several others,” said the producer, implying that the relationship between the two went beyond the artist-fan connection and was not on the best terms.
When he learned that El Taiger was hospitalized due to a gunshot wound to the head, he and other team members began to speculate about the possible events: “Many things crossed our minds, but we started to notice strange things, unusual occurrences, and coincidentally that person (Damián) tried to reach out to him and he wasn't answering calls, it was as if he disappeared (...) it never crossed my mind that this person could do that based on how I saw him behave with El Taiger. I always knew he was a fan, but I had no idea he would turn out to be such a cruel person as to take the life of someone he supposedly cared for and valued.”
The Yabo acknowledged that El Taiger was not someone who could be influenced, guided, or accept advice from friends or close individuals and when he said that “he was a tool of God, not a tool of anyone” he was referring precisely to that, because he only allowed himself to be guided by his parents and they were no longer present.
According to the producer, the image that El Taiger projected on social media was a sort of persona he adopted to hide what he really felt and how emotionally broken he was.
