A 49-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after being identified as the alleged perpetrator of the violent shooting that seriously injured his mother-in-law in her own home in Miami Gardens.

The incident, which took place on Monday morning, generated a great deal of shock in the local community and triggered an intense search by the authorities.

The detainee, identified as Bilal Ismail, was apprehended around 11:20 am on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the incident.

According to the Miami Gardens Police Department, Ismail was located and apprehended without incident during a felony traffic stop while driving a silver Toyota RAV4. However, at the time of the shooting, he had reportedly fled in a Ford F-150 truck.

The events occurred in the 4400 block of Northwest 203rd Terrace, a residential neighborhood where the victim, who is of Hispanic descent, resides.

Agents arrived at that location after receiving reports of gunfire shortly before 11:30 am on Monday. There, they found a woman with serious gunshot wounds, who was treated at the scene and then urgently transported by helicopter to Aventura hospital.

Her identity has not been revealed for privacy reasons, but official sources confirmed that she is the attacker’s mother-in-law.

Local 10 shared a video of Ismail's arrest at a gas station.

The reason that led Ismail to commit the crime remains a mystery.

"We do not know what prompted him to shoot at his mother-in-law, but the son-in-law did shoot at the mother-in-law who lives at the residence," said a police spokesperson on the same Monday, emphasizing the lack of clarity regarding the circumstances that led to the aggression.

The history of the relationship between both parties—along with any potential history of domestic violence or family disputes—has not been disclosed by the authorities to date.

However, the case is being taken seriously, and charges of attempted murder are being filed, suggesting the seriousness of the attack.

Bilal Ismail was taken into custody at a county detention center, where he remains awaiting his first court hearing, scheduled for this Wednesday. The prosecution may bring additional charges depending on the progress of the investigation and the victim's health status.

Meanwhile, the community of Miami Gardens remains on alert and shaken by this act of domestic violence that once again disrupts the fabric of daily life.

Authorities have requested public cooperation to gather more information that could help clarify the details of the case.

This incident adds to the growing concern over cases of domestic violence in South Florida, an issue that local organizations have been sounding the alarm about for some time, and which often leaves irreparable scars on the victims and their surroundings.
