Luis Felipe Mancebo Andrial, known by many in Santiago de Cuba as "El Faña," passed away Sunday night after a reported family dispute in which he was struck in the head with a padlock, although doctors stated that the official cause of his death was a heart attack.
The information was shared by journalist Yosmany Mayeta in a post on Facebook, where he detailed that the incident occurred on Prolongación de Gallo Street, where the deceased lived with his family.
Neighbors in the area confirmed to the media that the assault was allegedly committed by her brother-in-law during an argument.
“They hit him in the head with a padlock, and they say he had a heart attack,” reported a witness quoted by the journalist, who was in touch with relatives throughout the night.
At first, the aggressor was accused by his own sister, the widow of the deceased, and was taken to the Micro 9 police station.
However, following the forensic medical evaluation, it was concluded that the blow was not the cause of death, which is why the alleged attacker was released this Monday.
The decision has caused outrage among the neighbors, who claim to have witnessed the assault and question the lack of consequences, Mayeta emphasized.
"Where is the justice in Cuba? That man attacked him with a lock and killed him... and his brother-in-law is free as if nothing happened. No one pays for the dead," lamented a neighbor from the neighborhood, quoted by the independent journalist in his publication.
Luis Felipe, known as "El Faña," was very well-liked in his community. He was described as a noble, respectful person who loved motorcycles.
The news of his death has shocked those who knew him and has sparked a debate on social media about impunity in cases of domestic violence.
He is survived by his wife, his twin children, and a wide network of friends who are still coming to terms with the loss.
"How is it possible for one person to hit another, the victim later dies, and the aggressor continues to walk the streets as if nothing happened? No one is held accountable for the death. Where is the justice in this country?" expressed an angry neighbor, quoted by the social communicator Mayeta in his Facebook post.
During the first months of 2025, several incidents of lethal violence have been reported in Cuba, reinforcing citizens' perception of impunity regarding physical assaults.
In February, a bus driver identified as Antonio Díaz Méndez, was stabbed in Bayamo by an assailant who attempted to steal his belongings. Despite having undergone several surgeries and receiving assistance from his family to obtain medications, the man passed away.
Last month, the murder of Yaricza Chávez was reported, a young mother who was shot in the chest by her ex-husband following a heated argument in Ciego de Ávila. Although the attacker was apprehended, a heated debate ensued on social media between those who justified his behavior and those who demanded justice for the victim, highlighting the persistence of gender violence on the island.
A similar case occurred in Havana when the young man Yoandri Giménez, 21 years old, was allegedly stabbed to have his cell phone stolen in the Centro Habana municipality. Despite calling for help, he passed away shortly after at the hospital.
Additionally, last October, Dagnis Alida Hernández Milanés, a 39-year-old woman, was attacked by her ex-partner in her home in Santiago de Cuba. The murder was witnessed by her 11-year-old son.
