The U.S. deports 82 Cuban migrants by air

The U.S. deported 82 Cuban migrants on a charter flight, bringing the total to 25 operations since April 2023.

A total of 82 Cuban migrants were deported this Thursday from the United States via a charter flight, the Cuban Ministry of Interior reported on its X account.

Among the returnees are 74 men and eight women, according to the information from the regime.

This operation marks the fourth deportation flight from the U.S. this year, although no official details were provided about the first one, which occurred in January, by either Cuba or the United States.

Since President Joe Biden’s government resumed deportation flights to Cuba in April 2023, this would be the twenty-fifth air operation carried out between the two countries, according to the count by the island's authorities.

With this flight, there have now been 15 returns of migrants to Cuba from various countries in the region in 2025, with a total of 450 repatriated individuals.

This type of returns is part of the efforts by Washington and Havana to uphold their migration commitments and reduce the flow of irregular departures from the island, the regime indicated.

He did not clarify how deportations are processed after Donald Trump announced on April 17 that he would indefinitely pause bilateral immigration talks that typically took place twice a year, which serves as a clear indication of the growing deterioration in relations between the U.S. and Cuba.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Deportations of Cuban Migrants from the United States

How many deportation flights from the U.S. to Cuba have occurred in 2025?

To date, 25 deportation flights have been carried out from the United States to Cuba in 2025. These operations are part of the bilateral migration agreements between both countries, which were reactivated in April 2023.

Why has the United States increased the deportations of Cubans?

The increase in the deportation of Cubans is related to bilateral migration agreements and stricter immigration control policies. The Biden administration resumed deportation flights in 2023 as part of an effort to reduce the flow of irregular migration from Cuba.

What does forced return mean for Cuban migrants?

The forced return means that Cuban migrants must again confront the difficult socioeconomic conditions of the island. Many returnees face a lack of opportunities, state surveillance, and, in some cases, political persecution, adding to the frustration of their migratory aspirations.

How does Donald Trump's immigration policy affect Cuban migrants?

Donald Trump's immigration policy is characterized by a tougher approach, including mass deportations and the possible elimination of programs such as humanitarian parole. These measures create uncertainty among Cuban migrants and could limit their options for regularization in the United States.
