A traffic accident that occurred on Tuesday night, around 8:00 p.m., resulted in significant material damage to a cargo tricycle and a blue Moskvich car.
The incident, which occurred on Avenida de los Álamos in the city of Holguín, was reported by the Facebook page ‘Accidentes Buses & Camiones’, which published images and videos showing the tricycle overturned on the pavement.

On their part, a user shared photographs of the Soviet-made car, showing visible damage to the front, including a dented hood and broken headlights, indicating the extent of the impact.
The incident occurred on one of the city's main thoroughfares, an area that, according to witnesses, typically experiences heavy traffic from light vehicles and bicycles, especially in the evening hours.
The photographs also show the presence of police officers, as well as onlookers and neighbors who gathered at the scene shortly after the accident.
So far, no victims have been reported, and no official statement has been issued explaining the causes of the incident. It has also not been specified whether there were any injuries or if the intervention of emergency medical services was necessary.
This new incident highlights the need for greater caution while driving, especially in urban areas with mixed traffic from motor vehicles and alternative modes of transportation such as tricycles.
Increase in the use of tricycles and rise in accidents
This accident adds to a series of recent traffic incidents in Holguín. In August 2024, two drivers were injured following a collision between a motorcycle and a tricycle on the Central Highway, highlighting the vulnerability of these modes of transportation in collisions.
In March of the same year, a multiple accident occurred in downtown Holguín involving four vehicles and causing damage to a truck, two cars, and an electric tricycle. Sources on social media indicated that the accident happened when the driver of a Moskvich lost control of the car and collided with the other vehicles that were parked.
In July 2023, a traffic accident left three injured in Holguín, when an electric motorcycle failed to obey the stop sign and was struck by a tricycle that had the right of way at the corner of Máximo Gómez and Arias streets.
The increasing use of electric tricycles as an alternative mode of transportation has heightened their presence on urban roads. In May 2024, 20 new electric tricycles were added to the public service in Holguín, which presents new challenges in terms of road safety and interaction with other types of vehicles.
