Three young people arrested in violent incident at vocational school in Santiago de Cuba

Three young people were detained after an altercation at a school in Santiago de Cuba, which left one student injured. Authorities are investigating security failures at the educational institution.

The Cuban authorities arrested three young individuals on Tuesday, who are allegedly involved in the violent incident that occurred this Sunday at the "Antonio Maceo" Vocational School of Exact Sciences in Santiago de Cuba, which left a young student seriously injured.

The news was confirmed on the official profile "Héroes del Moncada," linked to the Ministry of the Interior (MININT). As stated there, the police captured three youths "unaffiliated with the educational institution."

The detainees are said to have entered one of the dormitories and caused a disturbance with the students who were there.

The post detailed that the apprehended youths typically visit the recreation area of the institution. On the day of the incident, they were inside the campus, sitting in the park, and the students threw water at them from the window of the dormitories.

That would have been the trigger for the events. The intruders, after being doused by the students, went up to the dormitory and started a fight.

"The injured young man fell into the void while trying to jump from the second to the first level of the building, evading the citizens who had entered the center and intended to assault him," the post added, without confirming whether the assailants were armed with knives or sticks when they burst into the bedroom."

The young man, a tenth-grade student, was seriously injured, with a skull fracture and inflamed kidneys due to the impact of the fall.

A source close to the student's family confirmed to Mayeta that Díaz Masso is progressing well and remains hospitalized at the Dr. Antonio María Béguez César Children's Hospital.

"He's drinking milk, juice, and he's doing better, he has already asked to go home, but he still can't. They told me they're going to move him to the room," wrote the reporter.

Despite the unfortunate incident, the Provincial Education Directorate reported that teaching activities at the IPVCE were continuing as per the established school calendar.

The authorities are investigating to clarify the incident and take the appropriate legal actions against those responsible. Deficiencies in the school's security have been reported, which had not been addressed despite similar past occurrences.
