The author of the murder that occurred this past Sunday at the La Hormiga popular campsite in the municipality of Fomento, Sancti Spíritus, has already been captured and confessed to the crime, as confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) in that province.

According to a report from the local state-run newspaper Escambray, the assailant was arrested less than two hours after the incident, thanks to citizen support and the actions of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), as explained by Major Maibel León Rodríguez, the deputy head of the Criminal Investigation Department in Sancti Spíritus.

The victim, identified as Rosa María Santana, 29 years old, was attacked by her ex-partner, who stabbed her three times in the chest region, causing her immediate death.

The crime occurred in the late afternoon at the mentioned campsite.

The accused, 36 years old and whose name was not disclosed by the state-run newspaper, has multiple criminal records and socially maladjusted behavior, according to authorities.

After committing the murder, he abandoned the weapon used and fled the scene, but he was located and transferred to the Criminal Instruction Unit of the province.

During the investigative process, the aggressor acknowledged their responsibility for the events, and once the established legal term has been fulfilled, the Prosecutor's Office will evaluate the imposition of the precautionary measure of provisional detention, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Law, reported Escambray.

The death of Rosa María Santana brings the confirmed feminicides in Cuba to 15 in 2025, amid increasing calls from independent organizations and civil society for official protocols to be adopted to prevent and address gender-based violence.
